Hound Club of East Anglia Open Show 2015 Critique

I had a very enjoyable day due to a very high quality entry, great show organisation, lovely picnic and sunny weather. Thank you very much to the exhibitors, organisers and stewards.

PUPPY
1 PHILLIPS’, HYNDSIGHT TO THE LIMIT WITH LADYGROVE. 9 month old dog. Absolute stunner. Nice dark harsh coat. Masculine head with a dark eye and small ears. Good shoulder placement and front angulation. Really good forechest. Body was balanced with good width and strength throughout and a good depth of chest. Excellent bone. Good feet. Good hind angulation. Very promising dog. Moved soundly. Delighted to hear that he then went on to BPIS. BP
2 TROTMAN AND DOCKREE’S, STAINLONAN REND OF PENHERALD. 7 month old bitch. Another lovely puppy. Sweet feminine expression and good harsh coat. Didn’t quite have the settled movement of the first but she’s still young. Lovely top line which she held on the move. Good feet.

POST GRADUATE
1 SHANNON’S, EREWHON WANTON FLAME. 2 year old bitch. This bitch had excellent profile movement and a lovely topline which she held well on the move. Lovely dark harsh coat with feminine head and dark eye. Good forechest, shoulder placement and front angulation. She has a longcast frame but the ribbing is well back and the dog overall is balanced with good hind angulation. Good bone and feet. Pushed the winner hard in the challenge. RBOB
2 BOND’S, REGALFLIGHT RUEBEN. 18 month old dog. This was a good dog and it was a close decision to the first. I just felt that the first had a slightly better return in upper arm and forechest with a better forward reach observed in the profile movement on the day. But this dog had excellent bone with a good harsh coat. Good masculine head with a dark eye. Good feet. Good rear angulation.

LIMIT
1 PHILLIPS, CHARBONNEL GOBI TO LADYGROVE. Nearly 2 year old bitch. Won the class on her consistent free and sound movement. Not the largest of bitches but she’s very nicely balanced. There’s a lot to like about her. The BOB challenge was a difficult decision but in the end she just lost out on body length. Good bone and feet and good depth of chest.
2 SHANNON’S,  EREWHON CELESTIAL FIRE. 2 year old dog. Lovely dark harsh coat. Good bone and a better height to length ratio than the first. Good depth of chest and good forechest with a good width to the body. However, he was not moving so freely today and was not striding out as well as the class winner.

OPEN
1 STUART AND HOLT’S, REGALFLIGHT CIVET. 4 year old bitch. Striking dark dog who caught the eye with her wonderful flowing lines and curves which won her the BOB. Good balance overall. Feminine head with a dark eye, small ear and soft expression. Good shoulder placement, length of neck and depth of chest. Good spring of rib, good body length and good feet. Movement was free and sound. BOB
2 CHURCHILL’S 2 LEALLA LEPHIN. 6 year old dog. Good strong dog with good bone and nice harsh coat. Didn’t quite have the front angulation of the first. Masculine head .Moved out freely and soundly with a good length of stride.
